Avant Garde Technology, Inc. president, Richard Tems decided to start a business making military cable assemblies because of what he learned in the Army. Here is his story:
“I was in Armor. When you are on a tank, keeping it running is the crews’ responsibility. The more we worked on our tanks, the more we learned about keeping them operational.
We were always short of mechanics, so things which should have been repaired by trained tank mechanics were repaired by the crews. If you didn’t fix it, the tank didn’t go. Sitting on a hill in February in Germany was really good motivation to learn how to fix your tank. The more I learned the more I realized I could make the parts also.
That’s why we formed Avant-Garde Technology in 1976. We have been building cable assemblies for the defense industry ever since.”
